January 2009 Lash Stylist of the Month -

Amy Dickerson

People choose careers for a number of different reasons – the influence of parents, passions from their youth or lifelong hobbies can all play a role. Amy Dickerson's chosen profession began with a heart for adventure and a love of lashes.

Growing up in the nomadic lifestyle of an Air Force kid, Amy's adventurous spirit was fostered from an early age. She has called numerous places “home” but when asked, she'll lay claim to Colorado as to where she's from. In her early twenties, she landed in California while working as Assistant to the Editor of Ms. Fitness magazine. The fitness expertise she gained with the magazine led to a position running a fitness center on board a cruise ship at age 23. A case of “right place, right time” turned into an 8 year long tenure as a cruise ship art auctioneer and set off a series of adventures around the world, as she travelled in and out of ports.

It was during this second nomadic period of her life that Amy found her love of lashes. A friend booked Xtreme applications for the two of them, in between sailings, and Amy was instantly hooked. She says, “I was regularly seeking out a lash stylist every time I arrived in port. I quickly discovered the Xtreme Lash products surpassed the competition in quality and service.”

When she and her long-time boyfriend, a fellow cruise professional, decided to put down roots and leave the constant travelling behind, Amy was on the lookout for a new adventure to fill her time. “I knew I wanted to work for myself. I needed a profession that could provide me with a creative outlet, flexibility, independence and control of my own success!”

She found it in Xtreme Lashes®. After getting settled in Madison, WI, Amy began her newest and most rewarding enterprise of all. “I loved my lashes so much, and with a little research into Xtreme I realized the immense possibilities this company offered,” she tells us. Although many individuals might be daunted by the idea of starting an entirely new career (after all, Amy had absolutely NO beauty experience), nothing was going to stand in her way once Amy made up her mind to do something. She enrolled in Cosmetology school, completed her education in esthetics and signed up for a private November 2007 Xtreme Lashes® training immediately after. Ten months later, she returned for an Advanced training with Xtreme's Training Director, Noor Daoudi.

Today, almost a year and a half after her initial training, Amy says she feels even more motivated than when she began. With a successful business applying lashes in Madison's Haven Spa, an elite group of followers in Los Angeles (who wait with breathless anticipation for each of Amy's visits) and plans to open her own free standing location in the future she feels “this has been an inspiring opportunity, it has already presented me with so many new and exciting adventures.”

Among those adventures was an application of lashes on Julie Herrin, the producer of one of Johnny Depp's soon-to-be-released movies, while the crew filmed in Wisconsin, a call she says came from her listing on the Xtreme Lashes® Directory. Amy has also been featured by Wisconsin Woman Magazine, a publication that spotlights the success of local business woman. Her professional success has enabled her to give back to her community, too. Amy has donated her services to support the Madison Orchestra and Partners For Patient Care.

In her off hours, ever the venturesome soul, Amy travels and skis with her boyfriend, is a self-professed yoga addict and enjoys taking her lab-mix, four-legged friend out on the town.

Whatever the future brings, it's clear that Amy will meet the challenges head on and succeed, despite all obstacles. Her foray into a new career is proof-positive that a can-do, will-do attitude will take you far. Amy's clients are certainly thrilled with her new found direction in life:

I've had the lash extensions done several times by experts in Los Angeles, but never did they last as long as Amy's Xtreme Lashes. I've always been able to feel the adhesive they used; with Amy's I feel nothing, they feel like my real lashes, I forget I have any on. And they aren't just longer, they are fuller and they look very natural.  She's the best!!!”
- Kimberly Green – (Actress, Los Angeles, CA.)

“As a Fine Art Auctioneer standing on the stage in front of 300 people or more, my make- up is very important.  Amy did my lashes for me the last time she was in LA and I am hooked, I told her I would have to fly her down to do them, as I have exhausted my options here and no one makes them look so real, so fabulous and last so long. It's an understatement to say I am impressed!"
- Cindy Wolmarans ( Art Auctioneer, Los Angeles, Ca.)

“Thanks again for the new eyelashes!! For the first time in decades, I don't have mascara on today and my eyes look and feel great. Thanks so much for your enduring patience and attention to detail.”
- Sue Broihahn (Business woman, Madison, WI)
